Traditional Houseboat — Kettuvallam
I loved this traditional looking houseboat when I saw it so I had to post it on here.
It’s called a Kettuvallam which is a house boat that is widely used in the Indian state of Kerala. They have wooden hulls and thatched roof covers as you can kind of see in the picture.
These boats are mostly used in the Kerala backwaters. In the past they were utilized for transporting rices, spices and other goods. They have also been used as living quarters for the royalty.
But nowadays with vehicles, roads, trains and air transportation these boats are not used like this anymore. They are now mostly used by tourists.
